Community Service

I have never done any community service in my life until this year. I never really thought of doing community only because I always felt I was too busy to make time for it. This year, I had to work a “Toys for Tots” drive. As I said before, I had never done it, but I have always donated stuff to help the less fortunate out. At the drive this year, I, and the other pitchers on the team, helped out. It was very cold outside, but I optimistic about doing it. We were there with a local radio station out of Wichita helping to get the word out about the drive. It was great seeing everybody come up and help. We were only there for a couple of hours, but people noticed that the Butler County baseball team was there and decided to help out. People came and talked to us about the team when they dropped the toys off. We had a goal of three thousand toys. In the two hours I was there, over five hundred toys were brought in! This was great! We were already at two thousand, three hundred toys when I got there. When I left, we had collected over two thousand, eight hundred toys! I felt really good about doing this toy drive. I felt like I was really helping out. It was a great experience that I will never forget, and I encourage others that they should try this out.
