Academic Honesty

Academic honesty is becoming a very important thing among all schools now. There are a lot of reported cases of kids caught cheating on various things. Cheating happens in every school across the nation, even elementaries. It may be becoming one of the biggest reasons why students are getting kicked out of school. In fact, at the University of Washington, it’s a very big deal. After one offense of suspected cheating, the student can be kicked out. Cheating at schools hurt the students that are actually doing the work themselves. Athletes are probably the ones that associated with cheating only because they are too busy. Instructors sometimes do not believe that some athletes are capable of doing good work. In fact, athletes in majority are getting smarter. College athletic programs are recruiting smarter players so they do not have to worry about the athletes’ grades. They also recruit the smarter athletes because the coaches feel as if they will not have to worry about the athletes outside of the school and the sport that he or she plays. One type of cheating is plagiarism. I define plagiarism as copying the words of another person and turning it in as your own. I believe plagiarism is big problem now. I think that there are several reasons why a student cheats. One, he or she does not feel in “the mood” to do all the work. I believe this happens a lot. Another reason for cheating is because the student procrastinates and does not have enough time to finish their work unless they cheat. This may be the most used reason for cheating. I think the most important way to not cheat is by simply getting the work done ahead of time to make sure one does not have to resort to cheating.
